Years ago, in my early 20’s I remember seeing a picture, it was as big as life. It was a picture of a Black Man with an afro, slim muscular body naked holding a Black woman. He had her back against his chest and he had his head bowed touching her neck his arms draped down the front of her body and his hands folded like an x. She stood in front of him legs crossed her head tilted to the left allowing him to touch her neck. Her arms draped in front of her body holding her stomach.
This is a picture I saw over 25 years ago, but the image still remains clear in my mind. I remember the arousal but I also remember thinking women aren’t supposed to feel this way. I remember trying to suppress that image pretending I didn’t see the picture or acting like it didn’t affect me.
Dr Gail Saltz says” 43% of women have some sort of sexual dysfunction-they have trouble with desire or they have trouble with arousal and this is a tool to use if you need help feeling more aroused or something to increase the pleasure of your sexuality which is extremely important to women”. She also says that anything really pleasurable can become kind of addictive.
Pornography is sexually explicit material intended to cause sexual arousal. The image that is imagined is a group of men in a basement looking at films. Or a magazine hidden in the bedroom with pages stuck together.
Erotica: art or literature intended to arouse sexual desire by portraying sex in an explicit way. It is the expression of details in a clear and obvious way, leaving no doubt as to the intended meaning.
As women become the consumers for erotic films, because the mind of the woman is constantly moving on different subjects at the same time, the films will have to not only stimulate the woman’s body but also stimulate her mind.
When a child watch a show they pick a character and will say I’m who ever. They imagine themselves doing what the character is doing. If phenomenal they will take the act away from the television or movie and make it a part of their dreams or play. It is from this we imagine ourselves doing and executing great feats of accomplishment.
It is from our imagination we are aroused, we see ourselves as the woman or the man in the picture or film and emulate what they are doing. Something we have done since we were children.
Dr. Pepper Schwartz says “A lot of filmmaker’s have gotten really smart about putting together pornographic, explicit films that are not denigrating to women. None of us are going to get excited about seeing something where we feel badly for the women.”
Women don’t want to see bad things happening to themselves. When looking for erotic films women will look for some thing they would like to imagine themselves doing. Location is important to a woman. Atmosphere has to be unequivocal. It is very clear to the woman what she wants and how she receives intense pleasure, it isn’t always clear to the partner. Erotic films not only can be a tool for learning but a tool for communicating.
Dr Schwartz says “you are not suppose to watch it more that four or five minutes, you know”
It doesn’t take long for a woman’s mind to be stimulated.
If the stimulus is there she can take it from that point.
The problem with pornography it no longer stimulates the mind to imagine or to build from what is seen. There is nothing to imagine you are there. I will admit this is still a physical stimulus, for some people they can’t just see the head roll on the ground to know it was cut off. They have to see the head cut off, blood vessels cut and blood streaming out of the neck to believe the head was decapitated.
It is possible to change the stigma that is placed on porn, first by changing the name to erotic films.
Erotica immediately causes the mind to imagine a luxurious location, sensual clothing, and soft music, warm weather with a cool breeze, champagne, chocolates and fruit. The female consumer demands better quality in location, atmosphere and a believable story line, for women we want our minds, emotions and body stimulated. The new word for pornography (erotica) it is the beginning of stimulating the woman’s mind, before stimulating her body.

Surprising But Truthful.
I totally agree with what you stated in your blog. As adults learn who they are they began to realize the difference of the two.
Nicely done.
